Progress continues on my latest piece.....slow but sure! I am working with a very limited palette of lavenders and golden limey greens.I love these shades together as the cool purples are warmed and softened with washes of lime. My aim is to work the whole piece in variations of these shades.More to follow soon!

Painting in Progress....

Following my recent public resolution to keep better 'in progress' records,I have been dutifully photographing various stages of the current painting I am working on....beginning with the rough sketch stages.
More to follow soon....
These are not the best quality pics as I only had my phone for photographing with at the studio, but I will of course add fully detailed shots of the finished piece-I like how it is going so far!

What are ACEOs???? ACEO is the acronym for "Art Cards Editions and Originals". An ACEO is a small piece of art that can be defined by it's convenient 2.5 x 3.5 inch size. (Standard trading card size)
ACEOs are VERY different from trading cards however, because they are CREATED and traded or sold by artists. All my ACEOs are absolute ORIGINAL pieces of art! (Some artists choose to sell prints of their work -'editions' )

ACEOs are created in any medium available in the art world. Artists are creating them in ALL kinds of styles and varieties. There are no rules limiting the artist, outside of the size dimensions. ACEOs can be framed, propped, used as bookmarks, grouped together in larger frames......use YOUR imagination! Trading Card notebooks, sleeves and holders can all be used to display them.

Sunset Painting in Progress....

This is a commissioned painting that I have been working on.I am not very good at remembering to take 'in progress' shots when I am working and envy those organised types that do so-it fascinates me to see how the layers build towards a finale, and I often regret that I don't record the stages better! ( * note to self-belated New Year Resolution, keep a better collection of 'in progress' shots!)
Anyways, here are the resulting, slightly erratic, stages that I committed to my camera during this painting.

Firstly, the basics colours and shapes are laid down to support the image that will be created.

Layers of hot colours are added gradually.

The base shades are softened with cool ocean tones.

Tones are again softened using misty whites and yellow tones.
The waves begin to look 'wet'.

When I think I'm done(!) -the sides are painted matt black so no frame will be necessary.

Finally-apologies for the poor photo quality at the end, I varnished the piece during a dark evening and took the final pictures, then it was delivered shortly after,so no time for good daylight shots to be taken!

New Years Day

What a way to blow away the cobwebs on 1st January 2009!
Trevaunance Cove is just a hundred yards or so from my studio ( how lucky am i?!) and was a chilly but refreshing place to visit on the first day of the year for a spot of beachcombing and fresh air!
Caves to explore,a whole heap of precious pebbles collected by my daughter and then back to our friends' house for hot choc and marshmallows-perfect!:)

D Is For Delicate ACEO

This is an ACEO from my latest series 'Alphabetica',entitled 'D is for ... Delicate'. I have worked through to the letter 'D' so far and the project has produced around eighty cards.
Each design is signed, dated and numbered on the reverse, and is collectible as a part of the series,or as an original in it's own right - I hope to finish the series during 2009!
Visit my stores HERE and HERE to view other original ACEOS, both from this special series and other mixed media designs!
