This is the second in a series of aceos with a marine/beachcombing theme (one of my favourite pastimes! The beach always draws me back and feeds my inspirations all year round,-we spent an invogorating afternoon at Perranporth this week! I had the most fortunate opportunity via an artist friend recently, to attend a live drawing class within a course she is following on a sort of casual 'drop-in' basis as there were enough spaces available-it's a discipline one can never have enough of and finding good models willing to pose is no easy task on a budget! This is one of the resulting sketches,worked in about 20 minutes(with a couple of false starts!) using conte crayon,chalk and charcoal on tinted paper.The model was fantastic and after quite a intense 2 hours of practising I felt really focussed and inspired to do more-I hope the opportunity comes again soon!

As an artist, one of the most important tools is your sketchbook! Some i have seen are neatly filed and organised,with a separate area for written notes,ideas and clippings. MINE however is NOT neat,but that is just how I like it! As much as I love to begin working in a fresh new sketchpad,I feel far more attuned to it once it has gained a collection of scribbles,staples,coffee rings etc-all the imprints of the experiences that my book and I have shared! Here is my first post of a sketchpad view. I have added a soft pink frame to the photo, as I liked the 'faraway' look to her, but other than that,it is a simple photograph of my pencil drawing. This is definitely a piece I would like to take further,a very feminine character! I will post here to share some of those pages of (sometimes smudged and often tattered) inspirations as an insight into my work as it evolves.....

My latest offering! 'Shades of White' Currently for sale in my ebay store (use link on left) this cute little mixed media canvas is gallery wrapped and measures 4" x 4" and is about 2" deep. Piece includes vintage buttons,images and lace, with tiny stitched collage in one corner and the sides are further embellished with a vintage button top and bottom as well. 'Smile' indeed! I was so pleased with this textile art wall hanging which includes vintage lace and fabrics and a real photograph. I have had a weird and complicated day of extremes, which I will not dwell on,but to sell this lovely soft,textural piece TODAY to a regular buyer was a great feeling and just what I needed, so I extend my sincere thanks for that-although she didn't know it was today she sure did make me 'Smile' on my birthday!

I miss the sunshine! Here is a painting which I finished today-the crocuses appearing give me hope that it won't stay dull and damp forever and inspire me with thoughts of Spring sunshine.... This is the fisrt in a series of works with a Spring Season Theme which I am currently working on.Block canvas measure 4" x 6" and 1.5" deep(approx). Hand written quote around the edge of the design reads 'again the crocuses are ablaze,the soft spring wind is blowing' and the stem is collaged with pieces of real crocus leaf. I love the way these delicate flowers suddenly appear when the garden is at it's most dull and untidy! This piece is currently for sale in my ebay store where more photos can be seen...

'Friends Are Angels Sent To Earth' Mixed Media on canvas. I am so pleased with this warm and romantic-feeling piece which I finally completed today! This is a lovely piece of artwork which I would like to share, made by my 7 year-old daughter, Tilly. I am a very proud mum!!

Canvas measures (APPROX) 14" x 16" and incorporates found objects,acrylic paints,images,diamante,silver metallics,collaged layers,texture paints,hand painted and collaged calligraphy,seaglass,wire,fibres(note how her shoes are really laced!) and dyed lace. The canvas is approximately 1" deep and is painted around the sides so the piece is ready to hang. A strong but calming piece of work, perfect to grace any art collection! This piece has been very lightly matt varnished to protect and preserve depth of colour in the work,but not detract from its textural nature. I am delighted with this piece! Sujati Designs- next exhibition date- March 3rd 2007. Proud to be invited to exhibit at the second 'Concept' Show, run by Pennterprise (led by artists Kate and Mark Penn). The first Concept Show (3rd Feb) was highly successful and I am delighted to have the opportunity to take part again. The show featured a stunning array of local artwork and high quality craft items along with locally made and produced foods all under one roof. The second 'Concept' exhibition will be open from 10am until 4pm, and is at the Porthtowan Village Hall in Porthtowan, Cornwall, just a couple hundred yards from the beach and famous bar/restaurant which overlooks that stunning Cornish surf!
