Tadah!

She is finished! I am so proud to present this latest offering to you this morning. Created using hand dyed and hand painted fabrics, gorgeous layers of cotton, lace and chiffon... Her wings are made from hand dyed silk fibers and delicately layered with stitchery and hidden fine wires to hold their gorgeous tattered shape... Her darling pointy bootees and fitted bodice are made from my feather printed fabric ( see previous posts) - it works beautifully with the woodland fairy feel I hoped to create! And the fun bit for you now? She has no name! Please leave a comment here or on my facebook art page ( link on the right of this page) with your suggestions for the naming of this beautiful nymph-there will be a prize for the winner, announced at the end of this week! AVAILABLE FOR SALE - please contact me for more details as I have not yet created a listing in my store... :)

ART DOLL in progress ...

I'm so excited at how this lovely piece is progressing-she is almost finished now, completed photos to appear tomorrow, she is a little shy so I will need to coax her to pose for me :)

More Feather Experiments!

Still exploring the feather theme in my sketchbook, I cut a second foam stamp, this time in reverse, which was a little trickier! It printed up beautifully over painted papers... Layered onto scrap recycled papers here... And I loved the effect on fabric-I will be finding ways to use this fabric on the art doll I am currently working on... Updates to follow!

art doll in progress

Where does the time go?! This is someone's hair...I wish it was mine, I absolutely adore it, but she is going to be very beautiful anyway-more pics to follow tomorrow as she develops!

New stuff !!

I thought I'd give the feather theme a rest on here for a day or two...here are some new items available in my store now! And even a new painting to share...this one is available for sale HERE - (please click for further details and more photos!)

And More Feathery Stuff...

This was a print made using my hand cut stamp and embellished with wax and paints. I love the effect of these bold black prints over painted papers... This is wonderful packing muslin that I have been saving for a special project,it has travelled all the way from India ( thank you Vicki-Sue) and was a perfect support for printing some funky feather designs on over the lovely stamps and scribbles-it also still smells slightly of nag champa-lush! Here we go... ( free tip-nail polish is a terrible idea with acrylic-I do use gloves at times, but often forget,so now have nails in luscious pink with lumpy purple and black splotches-suffering for my art perhaps?!) THIS I am really starting to really like! I feel new pieces of art blossoming in my mind already! Some new things to share with you tomorrow-lots happening here!

Feathers....

This may just look like another sketchbook/studio photo collection, but it is definitely going somewhere as you will see over the next few days! Like many artists I collect 'stuff' ( junk some might say) snippets and scraps that catch my eye and fill every corner of the studio. As an avid beachcomber, I have, along with an impressive array of shells, driftwood and pebbles, an extensive collection of feathers in my studio, stuffed into jars and pots or tucked in corners. Lately, feathers are inspiring me to use them to create with. This is definitely just the beginning! Ostrich feather,in gouache. Ostrich feather using wax resist. Gull Feathers found last weekend. I cut myself a feather-inspired stamp in foam Feather patterns using a heat tool in coloured waxes.

Sketchbooking , some more...

Just a few more of my latest sketchbooking pages-I should have some finished work to share very shortly too, which will make a welcome change so far this month!

More from my friend The Sketchbook :)

Moody divas galore in this post-it gets better I promise!

2011 Sketchbook begins...

I thought since I was breaking out a brand shiny new sketchbook for a brand shiny new year I would personalise it immediately and kick off the first page with a picture of me!! It's so important to draw or sketch at least once a day to keep the creative juices flowing-sometimes it's just an imaginary doodling, the next time it might be a detailed study of an object that inspires. Often, what I feel the inclination to draw is reflective of my mood or the kind of day I have had-this is when a sketchbook really comes to life for me, giving a point of focus for art journalling and becoming personally expressive, rather than simply a 'working out' kind of place ...

A Few Hours of Sunshine!

I have been buried deep in my sketch book this past week or so,I'm brimming with ideas for this year ,plus it keeps me sane when all else about me is a little crazy! I will be sharing some of my sketchbook pages this week but in the meantime, here are some gorgeous and inspiring photos taken just a few hours ago on a chilly but bright Perranporth beach ( Cornwall). Exhilarating AND inspiring-Sunday afternoons don't come much better than that! :)

Hhmmmmm....

Have had a really weird couple of days-and if I had to forecast, I would definitely say that it's likely to stay quite unusual until at least the end of the week.Sigh. Ah well. It's little moments like this that keep me sane-I think she is looking WAY too interested in the little danglies over my studio window don't you? ( I also think the window needs a polish, now the flash has shown it up, but that can wait a little longer....)

in the studio this week...

A few more snippets from the pile of goodies I am currently working on in the studio this week ( it's kinda cluttered right now, but the New Year clean-up operations will wait for a week or two!)-just to whet your appetites for now!
